Many islands and remote communities in the region rely on short-haul routes that cannot be served by road or rail, making regional aviation a critical infrastructure. Most of Loganair's regional segments are under 100 miles, aligning with the CX300's mission profile. The aircraft operates from existing runways and can be recharged in 20 to 40 minutes using BETA's rapid charging system.

This agreement marks a significant step toward introducing electric aviation to UK commercial routes, positioning Loganair as potentially the first commercial airline in Europe to operate an electric aircraft fleet.

The agreement builds on the UK's first electric flight demonstration project completed in March this year. During that project, BETA's CTOL aircraft completed 23 flights in 10 days across Loganair's route network, connecting Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness, Wick, and Kirkwall. The aircraft flew over 1,000 nautical miles under real-world operating conditions, validating performance, ground operations, charging, and integration with existing airport and airspace systems, while demonstrating a model for short-haul regional routes in the UK.

The aircraft, expected to enter service in 2029, will support passenger and cargo operations within Loganair's network, offering greater operational flexibility with lower operating costs and zero flight emissions. The agreement also includes technical support and integration plans to ensure seamless integration into Loganair's existing fleet.

Loganair CEO Luke Farajallah said this is a historic moment for the company and European aviation. He noted that the earlier demonstration project proved electric aviation is no longer a future concept but a viable commercial opportunity, with the aircraft showing potential to reduce operating costs by up to 80% while maintaining the reliable regional connectivity that customers and communities depend on.
