Neoen begins construction of 179 MW Narrogin Wind Farm in Western Australia

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Neoen has commenced construction of the 179 MW Narrogin Wind Farm in Western Australia. The project has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with state-owned energy retailer Synergy, which will purchase all electricity generated.

The Narrogin Wind Farm is Neoen's fourth major energy project and its first wind farm in Western Australia. Located 200 kilometers southeast of Perth, on the traditional lands of the Wilman Noongar people, near the towns of Narrogin and Williams, the wind farm will install 23 EN182-7.8 MW turbines supplied by Envision Energy, with the balance of plant constructed by a consortium of UGL and CPB Contractors. The project will connect to the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) grid via Western Power's existing 220 kV transmission line.

It is estimated that the clean energy generated by the wind farm each year could meet approximately 3% of SWIS's annual energy demand, equivalent to powering nearly 100,000 Western Australian households. Additionally, the project has secured support from the Australian Government's Capacity Investment Scheme.

Jean-Christophe Cheylus, CEO of Neoen Australia Pacific, stated that the company appreciates the trust from Synergy and the Western Australian Government, and is pleased to collaborate with Envision, UGL, and CPB Contractors to build Neoen's first wind farm in Western Australia. He also expressed gratitude to all parties involved in the project, including the host landowner Gnaala Karla Booja Aboriginal Corporation and the broader community.

Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy Josh Wilson said the project helps deliver cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable energy, while creating jobs and investment in the Wheatbelt region and supporting the state's transition from coal-fired power generation. He believes the Narrogin Wind Farm is one of many projects that will help power more Western Australian households, strengthen energy security, reduce emissions, and lower electricity prices.
