en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dutch maritime engineering company Boskalis has put its newly built 31,000 cubic meter trailing suction hopper dredger Seaway into actual operation. The vessel was constructed at the IHC shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel and, after undergoing sea trials in the North Sea, has officially commenced its first project.

The first task is located off the coast near Den Helder, Netherlands. Here, Seaway is used for channel bank sand replenishment to protect the coastline from natural erosion and sea level rise. This maiden project is part of a large contract recently awarded to Boskalis Nederland, aimed at reinforcing this section of the Dutch coast.

In addition to the work near Den Helder, the contract also includes beach replenishment on the Wadden Sea island of Texel and shoreface nourishment near the town of Julianadorp. In the coming years, other trailing suction hopper dredgers from Boskalis will also participate in these coastal protection projects.

Boskalis stated that the addition of Seaway brings a large-capacity new vessel to its dredging fleet, further enhancing the company's execution capabilities in coastal protection and marine infrastructure projects. The company noted on social media that the vessel's first operation immediately highlights the ongoing critical role of dredging in climate adaptation and protecting low-lying coastal areas.
