en.Wedoany.com Reported - Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC), a specialist in the insurance of defined benefit pension plans, has completed the One Eastside rental housing project in Birmingham. The 51-storey tower, standing at 155.5 metres, has become the tallest building in Birmingham, comprising 667 apartments in total.
One Eastside is built on a brownfield site formerly occupied by the chemical engineering and advanced chemistry teaching facilities of Birmingham Metropolitan College. Residents of the tower enjoy unobstructed 360-degree views of the city.
James Agar, Head of Real Estate Origination at PIC, stated that the completion of the project marks a significant milestone in delivering 667 much-needed high-quality new homes, with direct implications for continuously meeting the city's rental housing demand. He believes that as Birmingham's tallest skyscraper, One Eastside has been designed around the needs of modern tenants, with the combination of premium apartments and comprehensive amenities providing the project's appeal. Agar also noted that current renters are looking for more than just an apartment—they also seek flexibility, convenience, a sense of community, and experience in their living environment; One Eastside offers spaces where people can live, work, socialise, and connect.
The project's amenities include co-working spaces, the Luminary bar and lounge on the 49th floor, a private dining room, a podcast room, the Pantree Honesty Market, meeting rooms, a DJ booth, a dance floor, a games area, as well as an outdoor cinema and terrace. The existing facility, Quill & Forge, is named after a pub that once occupied the site before construction, as a tribute to that piece of history.
One Eastside was built by Sphere Group, a specialist residential developer, and handed over to PIC. Alex Neale, Chief Executive of Sphere Group, said that One Eastside is an iconic development for Birmingham, and its completion and handover mark the culmination of years of work by the team, expressing gratitude to all parties involved in delivering the project. In his view, residential delivery must not only meet demand but also raise expectations for urban living, and this project embodies that goal; seeing residents make One Eastside their home is also a source of satisfaction for the team.
