Phase II of Wanhua Chemical's 650,000-tonne Lithium Iron Phosphate Project in Laizhou Commences Construction
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 23, the Phase II project of the Green Power Industrial Park of China's Wanhua Chemical Group in Laizhou, Yantai, Shandong Province, officially commenced construction. As a major project of Shandong Province, the project covers an area of 557 mu and is planned to build a battery-grade lithium iron phosphate production facility with an annual capacity of 650,000 tonnes, implemented in two phases. Phase I, with an annual capacity of 320,000 tonnes, commenced construction in March 2026 and is currently advancing various pre-commissioning construction activities, with plans to complete and commence production by the end of the year. With the launch of Phase II, the Laizhou base will gradually form a complete lithium iron phosphate production layout.

The Laizhou project is supported by utilities and environmental protection facilities required for production, and relies on the park's integrated wind power, photovoltaic, and energy storage system for production electricity supply. The park connects clean energy supply with the lithium iron phosphate manufacturing process, covering the electricity demand of production facilities and auxiliary facilities. Upon completion of both phases, the Laizhou base will become Wanhua Chemical's lithium iron phosphate production base with the largest planned capacity.
Wanhua Chemical is simultaneously advancing other lithium iron phosphate projects within Shandong Province. The Phase I 100,000-tonne-per-year facility at the Haiyang Green Power Industrial Park commenced production in March 2026, while Phases II and III are each planned with an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes and are scheduled for completion by the end of the year. According to the company's construction schedule, once Laizhou Phase I and Haiyang Phase III are fully commissioned as planned, Shandong's total new annual lithium iron phosphate capacity will reach 820,000 tonnes in 2026.
In addition to the Laizhou and Haiyang bases, Wanhua Chemical also plans to build lithium iron phosphate projects with an annual capacity of 600,000 tonnes in Shouguang and 160,000 tonnes in Binzhou, bringing the total planned capacity in Shandong Province to over 1.9 million tonnes. The company has established battery materials as its second core business, and the related production bases will undertake the large-scale manufacturing and product supply of lithium iron phosphate cathode materials.
