en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 27, French environmental services company Veolia was awarded an equipment contract by Kanadevia Inova to design and supply two CO2 purification and dehydration units for the Protos waste-to-energy carbon capture project near Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, UK. The project, developed by Encyclis, is designed to process up to 500,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste per year, with a power generation capacity of 49.9 MW. Its associated carbon capture facility is designed to capture approximately 370,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, with operations planned to begin in mid-2029.

The two purification and dehydration units feature a compact modular design and will be installed within existing building space at the Protos energy recovery facility. The equipment will process CO2 output from the upstream carbon capture system, removing impurities and moisture to bring the gas to the purity required for subsequent pipeline transport and geological storage.

Kanadevia Inova, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project, is responsible for building the carbon capture facility, which uses amine-based technology to separate CO2 from waste incineration flue gas. Veolia is responsible for the design and supply of the downstream purification and dehydration equipment, which will be connected to the carbon capture system and the CO2 export facilities.

The Protos carbon capture project is part of the HyNet industrial decarbonization cluster in northwest England. The purified CO2 is planned to be fed into the HyNet North West pipeline network and transported to depleted natural gas reservoirs beneath Liverpool Bay for permanent geological storage.
