Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 17, Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd. has announced plans to expand production of high-tenacity recycled polyester filament yarn for industrial applications, such as tire cords, rubber reinforcements, and seat belts. The expansion will take place at Teijin Polyester (Thailand) Limited (TPL), a group company located in Pathumthani, Thailand, and is set to begin in November 2025. This move will increase production by 620 metric tons per year (m.t./yr), facilitated by upgrades in the upstream equipment used to manufacture raw yarns.
Teijin Frontier’s TPL site
The demand for recycled polyester filament yarn has surged, driven by growing regulatory requirements for circularity, particularly the European Union's End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) regulation announced in 2023. Moreover, the increasing need for high-performance polyester filament yarns—such as those with high tenacity and flame resistance—reflects the ongoing efforts to enhance safety in industrial and automotive parts.
Teijin Frontier has already been producing these yarns at the TPL facility. However, production capacity limitations in raw yarn manufacturing have hindered the ability to meet the growing demand for recycled polyester filament yarns, while also maintaining the production of functional yarns needed for other industrial applications.
To address this, Teijin Frontier will invest in upgrading TPL's infrastructure, which will enable them to boost output of high-tenacity recycled polyester filament yarns and expand the applications of functional yarns. This expansion aligns with the company’s efforts to meet the rising demand for sustainable materials in industrial sectors.
Teijin Frontier plans to market these yarns domestically and internationally, within the Teijin Frontier Group and beyond. In the future, the newly upgraded equipment will also be used to produce newly developed high-tenacity recycled polyester filament yarns, further expanding the company’s product offerings in the industrial applications space.
