Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 5, US President Donald Trump has signed trade agreements with Malaysia and Cambodia, enabling the United States to begin exporting pork to both countries. The deal with Malaysia is expected to particularly benefit US pork producers.
According to a press release by the US National Pork Producers Council (NPPC), the agreement with Malaysia will grant access to all US facilities listed in the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Meat, Poultry and Egg Product Inspection Directory. The deal does not require additional product or facility registration and ensures recognition of the standard FSIS export certificate.
Cambodia has agreed to identical terms, allowing US pork exports under the same conditions.
Under the Malaysia agreement, the country also committed to recognize the US protection zone for African Swine Fever within 15 months and to finalize a regionalisation arrangement, further supporting trade security and disease management.
In 2024, US pork exports to Malaysia totaled US$24.5 million, a significant figure considering that only eight US plants were eligible to export. NPPC noted that exports to Malaysia have increased over 1,700% in the past five years, highlighting the growing importance of this market for US pork producers.
These agreements are expected to streamline regulatory requirements, expand market access, and support the US pork industry’s international growth while ensuring compliance with safety and inspection standards.
