Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 17, BMW Group and Momenta jointly announced that their next-generation intelligent driving solution for the Chinese market will first be equipped on the domestically produced next-gen BMW iX3. The system is scheduled for mass production and market introduction in 2026. At the center of this solution is Momenta’s end-to-end “flywheel” large model, which applies an integrated “perception-planning-control” architecture to support advanced driving functions.
Production of the next-gen BMW iX3 is expected to begin in 2026 at BMW Brilliance’s Shenyang manufacturing base. The vehicle’s global debut and official market launch are also arranged for the same year. BMW first announced its collaboration with Momenta in July, focusing on intelligent driving assistance. Joint teams in Germany and China have refined the system to better reflect local traffic characteristics, aiming to provide a driving assistance experience suitable for both urban and highway environments. After the 2026 debut on the new iX3, BMW plans to gradually introduce the system to additional future models.
In September, CarNewsChina reported that the next-gen BMW iX3 had been spotted undergoing testing in Chinese cities.
Momenta is recognized as one of China’s full-stack autonomous-driving companies. It applies a “one flywheel, two legs” development strategy: commercializing L2/L2+ advanced-driver-assistance systems (ADAS) for automakers while using real-world driving data to develop its L4 driver-out algorithms. This dual approach supports continuous iteration of its technologies.
According to Auto Insight, Momenta accounted for about 60% of China’s city-NOA (navigate-on-autopilot) solutions delivered between January and October 2024. Huawei’s HI mode represented roughly 30%, and all remaining suppliers collectively held about 10%. Momenta’s customers include automakers across major global auto markets—the U.S., China, Japan and Germany—and cover seven of the world’s ten largest OEMs. By late 2024, 26 production models featuring Momenta’s technology had already entered showrooms, with more than 130 additional models progressing through joint development.
BMW Group’s partnership with Momenta underscores the companies’ intention to advance intelligent driving technologies tailored to local driving environments. The jointly developed system will anchor the next-gen iX3’s driving-assistance functions and contribute to the broader deployment of next-generation ADAS solutions across BMW’s lineup in the coming years.
