Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 20, The Port of Koper, operated by Luka Koper in Slovenia, has placed a new order with Konecranes for four additional electric Rubber-Tyred Gantry (e-RTG) cranes as part of its ongoing container terminal modernisation programme.

This repeat purchase follows an identical order placed in 2024 and will bring the total number of Konecranes electric RTGs at the port to a significant portion of its yard fleet. Delivery is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026, when the new units will replace older diesel-powered cranes.

The battery-hybrid e-RTGs operate primarily on grid electricity via cable reel and use onboard batteries only for short movements within the stack, eliminating diesel consumption during normal operation. Each crane will also feature Konecranes’ automated Truck Lift Prevention system to enhance safety and operational reliability.

Edvin Boskin, Container Terminal Technical Manager at Luka Koper, stated: “This latest order builds on a relationship that has grown over many years, based on proven results and shared eco-efficiency goals. The new Konecranes RTGs support our modernisation program by combining reliable performance with lower emissions.”

Philipp Reiter, Regional Sales Manager for Konecranes Port Solutions, added: “By ordering the same type of electric Konecranes RTGs as last year, Luka Koper can scale its modernisation programme even faster. This repeat order shows how ports can enhance daily operations and reach eco-efficiency targets.”

Koper already operates one of the Adriatic’s most advanced crane fleets, with more than 30 Konecranes RTGs and several rail-mounted gantry cranes, including units equipped for remote operation. The continued shift to all-electric yard equipment will further reduce emissions, simplify maintenance, and improve overall terminal efficiency.

The investment aligns with Luka Koper’s long-term decarbonisation and digitalisation strategy while strengthening the port’s position as a key gateway for Central and Eastern European markets. The new cranes form part of Konecranes’ Ecolifting initiative, which focuses on delivering sustainable, high-performance solutions for container handling worldwide.
