Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 26, The governments of Mozambique and China have reached an agreement to jointly invest US$333 million in building two cement production plants in the northern provinces of Nampula and Cabo Delgado.

The funding package also covers construction of a quay bridge and upgrades to local hospital facilities. The decision follows four cooperation agreements signed in October at a bilateral investment conference held in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China. Mozambique’s Minister of Economy, Basílio Muhate, led a delegation of approximately 50 officials to the event.

These projects are designed to support industrial development in northern Mozambique, create employment opportunities, and expand the region’s production and export capabilities. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen economic and infrastructure ties between the two countries.

By establishing modern cement manufacturing facilities, the investment will help meet growing domestic demand and contribute to regional construction needs. The quay bridge will improve port access, while enhanced hospital services will benefit local communities.

The Ministry of Economy in Mozambique highlighted that the joint venture aligns with national goals to accelerate industrialisation and attract foreign direct investment into key sectors. For China, the participation reinforces its active involvement in Africa’s building materials and infrastructure development.
