Wedoany.com Report-Dec.22, Pure Data Centres Group (Pure DC), a specialist in designing, developing, and operating hyperscale cloud and AI data centres, has secured the largest standalone hyperscale data centre lease in Europe for 2025.

A hyperscale customer will occupy the complete 78MW campus located in Westpoort, Amsterdam. Pure DC will invest more than €1 billion in the project's development.

Under the lease agreement, Pure DC acquired the land on a long-term leasehold from the Port of Amsterdam, obtained required planning permissions, and arranged 100MVA of power supply through a private substation. Overcoming site availability challenges, permitting requirements, and power constraints in Amsterdam involved extensive negotiations and innovative collaboration over several months.

This substantial investment will support the growth of digital infrastructure in the region and enhance energy management capabilities. Beyond the financial commitment, the project is expected to create over 1,000 construction jobs and generate additional opportunities throughout the supply chain, with a focus on engaging local companies for skilled roles. After completion, the facility will maintain about 80 permanent positions in fields such as engineering, maintenance, security, and administration.

The campus, named AMS01, will consist of three 85-metre towers, each equipped with 26MW of data halls. The design supports high-density computing through efficient cooling systems that meet the Netherlands' energy efficiency standard of a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.2. The private substation is already built and operational, with construction of the data halls scheduled to start in January 2026.

Pure DC prioritizes community involvement at its operational sites. In Amsterdam, the company plans to implement programs similar to those at other locations, including partnerships with local schools and universities for training, career advice, and outreach activities; assistance to charitable organizations; and collaboration with community groups on environmental conservation efforts.

Dame Dawn Childs DBE FREng, CEO of Pure Data Centres, stated: "Amsterdam is one of Europe's most constrained markets for digital infrastructure and Pure DC has again demonstrated its ability to unlock new low-latency, high-quality capacity. This deal demonstrates how our specialist teams have the creativity and approach to deliver compelling proposals for even previously distressed assets – delivering solutions for local authorities, potential customers, and our supply chain."
