French engineering firm Technip Energies, serving as the engineering, procurement, and construction service provider for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project in Louisiana, has issued a full notice to proceed to U.S. energy technology company Baker Hughes. Baker Hughes will provide the main liquefaction equipment for this LNG export project to Commonwealth LNG, which is controlled by investment management firm Kimmeridge.
Located in Cameron, Louisiana, the project has a planned annual capacity of 9.5 million tons. The contract awarded to Baker Hughes includes providing six refrigerant turbo-compressors driven by LM9000 aeroderivative gas turbines. Arnaud Pieton, CEO of Technip Energies, stated, "Building on our longstanding partnership with Baker Hughes, the award of this key liquefaction equipment marks another important step towards a final investment decision for the Commonwealth LNG project." He looks forward to the teams collaborating to build a modular LNG facility to meet global energy demand.
David Lawler, CEO of Commonwealth LNG, commented, "This major capital investment in the Commonwealth LNG platform is a significant milestone, and the financing process is progressing well, demonstrating our commitment to developing this world-scale LNG project." Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes, emphasized, "This award underscores our commitment to building energy infrastructure, which is crucial for supporting sustainable energy development." The company noted that its LM9000 gas turbines offer high operational efficiency.
Recently, a court ruling indicated that the Louisiana Department of Energy and Natural Resources must consider the comprehensive impacts on surrounding communities and the environment when issuing the coastal use permit for this facility.
