en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 25th, According to the latest data from Madcargo, Madrid-Barajas Airport in Spain handled 65,279,560 kilograms of air cargo in February, a year-on-year increase of 6.5%. However, the share of cargo aircraft in this overall growth has declined, with their proportion of the total volume remaining at 40%, similar to the same period last year.
The conflicts in the Middle East have had a significant impact on Barajas Airport's cargo routes. Data shows that cargo volume between the airport and the Middle East region experienced a negative growth of 0.7%, while cargo volume with Asia saw a substantial decline of 25% over the year. These changes reflect the impact of regional situations on the air cargo industry and suggest that future data may further confirm this trend.
Regarding specific routes, the cargo volume on the Madrid-Doha route plummeted by 18%, becoming the route with the largest decline among Spanish airports; the Madrid-Beijing route also fell by 5%. However, these declines were partially offset by growth on the Istanbul and Baku routes, which transport goods from Asia and achieved robust growth of 26% and 23%, respectively.
Meanwhile, Barajas Airport's cargo performance with other regions showed positive trends. Cargo volume increased on routes to North America and Ibero-America, and European routes also rose, partly due to cargo originally destined for Asia being diverted to Central European airports. The Miami route also entered the top ten cargo routes for Madrid, primarily used for transporting goods related to Ibero-America.
