Wedoany.com Report-Dec.24, Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) has secured a new contract valued at approximately Rs9.01 billion ($100.5 million) for work on the Tupul–Imphal new Broad Gauge (BG) railway line in Manipur, India.

The contract was awarded by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to the HCC–VCCL Joint Venture (HCC–VCCL JV), where HCC holds a 65% share.

The Tupul–Imphal BG corridor serves as an important rail link that enhances connectivity within Manipur and surrounding areas.

Under the agreement, the joint venture will construct New Tunnel 28, a primary tunnel approximately 3.5 kilometres in length. The package includes complete responsibilities for design, engineering, and commissioning.

The scope of work covers the design and proof-checking of a Broad Gauge ballast-less track. It also includes the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of associated railway systems and structures.

Additional tasks encompass the design, supply, erection, and commissioning of tunnel ventilation systems, along with full electro-mechanical installations.

The contract further requires the construction of approach roads and other supporting infrastructure necessary to integrate the tunnel into the overall railway network.

This project forms part of the ongoing efforts to expand and modernise India's railway system, improving transportation efficiency and regional accessibility.

HCC brings nearly a century of engineering expertise to the assignment. The company has successfully delivered numerous infrastructure projects, including more than 402 kilometres of complex tunnelling works across diverse geological conditions.

The assignment highlights HCC's continued role in delivering critical rail infrastructure. By combining advanced engineering capabilities with thorough project management, the joint venture aims to complete the tunnel safely and on schedule.

This contract reinforces HCC's strong track record in tunnelling and railway development, contributing to the enhancement of India's national transport network.
