Wedoany.com News, January 7 – According to foreign media reports, the latest developments regarding the fire incident at the Convergent Energy & Power energy storage station in Warwick, New York, USA, have been disclosed. The fire did not result in any casualties. According to air quality monitoring by the Warwick government's hazardous materials assessment team, the concentration of hydrogen cyanide in the air near the energy storage station during the fire reached 0.5 ppm, which is about half of the U.S. safety limit and falls within the safe range. The monitoring point located downwind from the fire site recorded a concentration of 0. Monitoring continued until December 22, 2025.

Cleanup and investigation work at the energy storage station began only after the battery temperature had decreased.

It is understood that this energy storage project is primarily used to provide backup power to the grid during peak electricity demand periods or emergencies. At the time of the fire, the energy storage system was fully charged; subsequently, for safety measures, the charge level was reduced to 50%. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, but it may have been triggered by water ingress, with severe weather prior to the incident being the main contributing factor.

Currently, the energy storage station has been disconnected from the grid, and waterproof tarps have been placed. The damaged batteries will be removed to facilitate a comprehensive investigation report. The Warwick government will further conduct tests on the surface, soil, and water quality.
