Wedoany.com Report on Feb 9th, In the historic center of Palma de Mallorca, the 16th-century noble mansion, Canamengol Palace, has seen a 1,000-square-meter residence on its noble floor restored to its former glory through the collaborative efforts of archaeologists, restorers, and local craftsmen. The comprehensive restoration project of this 3,000-square-meter building also includes seven other residences on the ground and first floors, ranging from 150 to 300 square meters, all designed with private outdoor areas and common spaces.

Interior designer Isabel López Villalta stated that this restoration represents a significant investment in the protection and enhancement of Mallorca's architectural heritage. The palace underwent several modifications in the 18th century, blending Baroque, Neoclassical, and Modernist styles. The team focused on recovering and reusing existing elements; for instance, wooden doors of various shapes were preserved or refurbished to minimize waste.

The selection of new materials emphasized the value of local craftsmanship, such as handmade terracotta flooring, lime-plastered walls, and skirting boards in early styles. During the restoration, handling ancient materials posed a challenge for experts with over thirty years of experience, but the team successfully integrated them into the new spaces.

For furnishings, the team carefully selected works by 20th-century designers from Mallorca, Catalonia, and other parts of Spain, along with local antiques. Isabel said, "We recovered classic lighting fixtures from Catalan design, such as early versions by Miguel Milà or Ángel Jové, and combined them with Mallorcan furniture found in antique shops." Artworks come from local artists like Jaume Roig and Guillem Nadal, as well as national artists Antònia Ferrer and Isami Armas.

Highlights of the residence include an outdoor terrace overlooking Palma Cathedral. Isabel mentioned, "In the courtyard, we preserved traditional Mallorcan curtains to maintain an ideal temperature and enjoy the breeze." This terrace, designed for family and friends, is an ideal spot to admire the island's sunsets. The entire restoration project not only revived the original charm of this 16th-century palace but also provided comfortable spaces for modern living, reflecting ongoing attention to Mallorca's architectural heritage.
