Wedoany.com Report on Feb 24th, Against the backdrop of rising global demand for key minerals for the energy transition, such as copper and zinc, the Peruvian National Society of Mining, Petroleum, and Energy (SNMPE) will host the "XVI International Mining Symposium" from May 26 to 28 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Lima. The conference theme is "Integrating Mining, Building the Present, Transforming the Future," aiming to bring together industry leaders, government officials, and international experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by global mineral shortages.

In a core session, Erik Heimlich, Head of Copper and Zinc Market Analysis and Forecasting at the international company CRU, will deliver a speech analyzing the global demand outlook, the projected scale of mineral shortages, and the potential opportunities for producing countries like Peru. His analysis will quantify the evolving trends in consumption related to electrification, infrastructure, and decarbonization, assess supply gaps in the coming years, and discuss the conditions Peru needs to meet to attract investment and play a key role in the global market landscape.

Building on this forward-looking analysis, the conference will hold a roundtable discussion of Peruvian mining leaders, chaired by Víctor Gobitz, CEO and Chairman of Quilla Resources. This panel aims to propose specific recommendations at the regulatory, institutional, and operational levels to enhance the competitiveness of mining investment in Peru. Gobitz stated: "The international context provides Peru with an extraordinary opportunity, but capitalizing on it depends on our ability to provide clear rules, predictable processes, and efficient public management. If we do not bridge our internal gaps, other countries will attract these investments."

Participants in the roundtable include Raúl Jacob, Vice President of Finance and CFO of Southern Peru Copper Corporation; Juan Luis Kruger, General Manager of Minsur; Leandro García, General Manager of Compañía de Minas Buenaventura; and Luis Rivera, Director of South American Operations and COO of Glencore. They will combine their corporate perspectives to discuss how to accelerate permitting processes through reforms, enhance coordination with the government, and ensure competitive investment conditions to address the challenges of global mineral shortages.

This symposium will center on the theme of global mineral shortages, delving into Peru's role in the global mining industry and its investment opportunities, providing a reference for the industry's future development.
