The Board of Directors of the Port Authority has officially approved the modification of the concession for Total Terminal International Algeciras (TTI Algeciras), including an expansion of the terminal area by 15.9 hectares and the granting of a concession extension, totaling an extension until 2066. This move aims to enhance terminal handling capacity and support regional logistics development.

The main shareholders of TTI Algeciras are HMM and CMA-CGM. The company has applied for the terminal expansion, planning to occupy part of the land in Phase B of Isla Verde Exterior and integrate it with the existing 30-hectare area of Phase A. The total investment is expected to exceed €135 million, with the goal of increasing terminal handling capacity by 500,000 TEUs, reaching 2.1 million TEUs by 2028, to meet growing cargo demand.

The majority of the investment will be allocated to superstructure construction, including the procurement of two quay cranes, 12 automated yard cranes for the six new blocks, as well as six shuttle carriers and operating system updates. Simultaneously, office buildings, employee parking lots, and entrance control facilities will be relocated southward to optimize the terminal layout.

Port Authority President Gerardo Landaluce stated: "Since the launch of the semi-automated terminal, it has handled over 18 million TEUs of cargo, significantly promoting the development of import and export traffic, enhancing port connectivity, and creating local employment opportunities." He emphasized that the expansion project of TTI Algeciras is a key initiative to boost terminal handling capacity.

However, Landaluce also noted that such private investments require supporting landside infrastructure, and projects for road and rail networks should be accelerated to ensure that the enhancement of terminal handling capacity is coordinated with the overall logistics system.
