Wedoany.com Report on Mar 3rd, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) recently announced the official commencement of operations for India's first dedicated Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) terminal at Mundra Port in Gujarat. The commissioning of this VLCC terminal marks a significant advancement in India's port infrastructure, aimed at enhancing crude oil import handling capacity.
The VLCC terminal is designed with deep-water berths and modern maritime facilities, enabling efficient handling of large crude carriers, including VLCCs with a deadweight capacity of up to 330,000 tons. The terminal is 400 meters long with a draft of up to 25 meters, providing favorable conditions for crude oil unloading. Furthermore, the terminal's layout optimizes operational processes, reducing the need for lightering and thereby accelerating cargo turnaround.
APSEZ stated that a 489-kilometer pipeline connects the VLCC terminal to the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery in Barmer, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable crude oil transportation. This pipeline system helps streamline logistics, reduce transportation costs, and enhance the terminal's strategic advantages.
APSEZ expects the new VLCC terminal to promote direct crude oil imports through Mundra Port and support the growth of India's energy demand. The improvement of comprehensive infrastructure is anticipated to boost the port's overall efficiency and bring positive impacts to the regional economy.
