Wedoany.com Report on Mar 3rd, The New South Wales Government in Australia recently announced a road maintenance achievement, stating that over 106,000 potholes have been repaired in the state's regional areas during the past seven months as part of a pothole blitz. This ongoing effort aims to enhance road safety and reliability by addressing road defects promptly through daily on-the-ground work, preventing minor issues from escalating.
Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison stated: "On our watch, we have filled more than half a million potholes across New South Wales, including 106,500 in regional areas in the past seven months. This is the biggest pothole blitz we have seen in decades. Filling half a million potholes in three years is a significant milestone, but our fight against potholes continues – we will work to repair and resurface as many roads as we can."
This work is supported by $155 million in accelerated funding, increasing this year's regional road maintenance budget to $1.25 billion. Since July 2025, more than 1,400 minor improvement projects have also been completed on state-managed roads in regional areas, including intersection upgrades, shoulder sealing, drainage improvements, localized resurfacing, and targeted safety treatments.
Dr. Michael Holland, Member for Bega, added: "Here on the Far South Coast, our roads are our lifelines. They connect families to schools, jobs and each other, support the movement of freight, and underpin our vital tourism industry. After years of severe weather and heavy use, road maintenance requires constant attention. Repairing more than 106,500 potholes in regional NSW in just seven months shows a clear focus on getting the basics right. In our region, flatter and safer roads mean fewer accidents, less vehicle damage, and greater confidence for locals and visitors alike."
