Malaysia's Federal Minister of Public Works, Dato' Seri Alexander, revealed that his department is actively following up on the proposal to build a flyover at the Simunjan Junction on the Pan Borneo Highway. The flyover plan has been submitted to the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Finance to secure funding and push forward the implementation of the flyover project.

Recently, Alexander issued a statement on his social media, stating that a delegation consisting of community leaders and village heads from the Simunjan area paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Public Works this morning. The delegation highlighted the increasing traffic volume at the junction and the existing road safety hazards. During the meeting, Alexander assured the delegation that the Ministry of Public Works would formally submit the application to build the flyover to the Ministry of Economy for evaluation. He stated: "Once it receives support from the Ministry of Economy, the flyover proposal will be forwarded to the Ministry of Finance to seek final approval for funding. We are well aware of the urgent need of local residents to enhance safety at this busy junction."
During the exchange, Alexander briefed the delegation on the important role of the Ministry of Public Works as the government's implementing agency for development projects. The department is not only responsible for projects under the Ministry of Transport but also assists the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Health in implementing infrastructure works.
Regarding flyover-related infrastructure work in Sarawak, Alexander specifically pointed out that the current focus of the Ministry of Public Works is on federal roads and the Pan Borneo Highway project. Among these, the authorities plan to upgrade the specifications of the existing "red line" section of the Pan Borneo Highway from R3 standard to R5 standard. He stated: "This upgrade will fill connectivity gaps, significantly improve the comfort and safety of road users, and subsequently drive economic growth within the state through enhanced connectivity. This aligns with the objectives of infrastructure projects such as the flyover."
Alexander emphasized that exchanges with grassroots leaders are crucial, as they ensure community representatives clearly understand the government's implementation processes and planning framework for projects like the flyover under the Malaysia Plan. He hopes that through such dialogues, the connection between the government and community leaders can be further strengthened, working together to promote infrastructure construction like the flyover for the benefit of the wider public.
