To alleviate road congestion and enhance traffic capacity in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia plans to implement the "Interchange" project in phases from 2025 to 2028. This project is closely linked to Mongolia's medium- and long-term development policies and aims to reduce traffic delays caused by intersections on the city's main roads and major streets through comprehensive engineering solutions.

The project plans to construct 4,500 meters of underground passages, 9,000 meters of roads, as well as bridge facilities and interchanges at 18 locations with high traffic volume and heavy load. Specifically, feasibility studies and detailed design plans for five locations, including the Monos Intersection in Songinokhairkhan District, the Mechanical Engineering and Transportation Institute Intersection in Khan-Uul District, and the Officer's Residence Intersection in Bayanzürkh District, have been approved. The construction of pedestrian bridges on Nadaam Avenue and bridge facilities east of the Nart Residential Area in District 42 of Bayanzürkh District are also planned, all of which are part of the Interchange project.

After the project's implementation, the average traffic speed on Ulaanbaatar's roads is expected to increase by 7.1%. This change will not only reduce the road load in the city center, shorten travel times for citizens, but also decrease fuel consumption and air pollution, bringing significant positive socio-economic impacts. At the same time, the reduction in waiting times at intersections and the increase in average driving speed will effectively lower the risk of traffic accidents and improve urban traffic safety, all thanks to the smooth progress of the Interchange project.
