Wedoany.com Report-Dec 02, RegioJet will expand its presence in Prague's urban rail transport by taking over the operation of the S49 line starting December 15, 2024, with external rolling stock help by 2025.
The S49 line connects Roztoky u Prahy, Libeň, and Hostivař, serving as a key route within the city's railway network. Due to delays in the delivery of new PESA Elf.eu low-floor electric units, the S49 line will initially be serviced by Arriva vehicles operating under RegioJet's license. The new PESA units are expected to be introduced between the first and second quarters of 2025.
These three-car, dual-system electric units will feature air conditioning, barrier-free access, Wi-Fi connectivity, and will be equipped with the ETCS system and a first-class compartment. Each train will have seating capacity for 240 passengers.
A new S61 line is scheduled to launch in 2025, linking Prague's Main Station and Vršovice with Úvaly. Both lines will be operated by RegioJet for the next 15 years, extending their services until 2039.
The planned S61 line will undergo a temporary route adjustment. Owing to incomplete stops and infrastructural changes, the line will not run from Běchovice to Vršovice as initially intended. Instead, it will operate on a detour route from the Main Station and Vršovice along the corridor to Úvaly in Central Bohemia.
RegioJet plans to commence operations on this route following the delivery of the PESA Elf.eu units, with the original route opening once the necessary infrastructure is completed.
