Wedoany.com Report on Mar 6th, The government of Argentina's Neuquén Province recently announced that the Los Chihuidos Solar Park has officially commenced operations. This photovoltaic power generation facility is equipped with an energy storage system and will provide a stable and continuous power supply to the Los Chihuidos community, replacing the previously relied-upon diesel generators which had limited operating hours. The project was jointly funded by Pan American Energy (PAE) and YPF, with the Neuquén Provincial Energy Agency (EPEN) responsible for its specific operation and management.

The Los Chihuidos Solar Park comprises 288 photovoltaic panels and a lithium-ion battery energy storage system with a storage capacity of 545 kWh, ensuring energy self-sufficiency during periods of insufficient sunlight. The plant has a power output of approximately 200 kW and functions as a component of a hybrid microgrid, integrating solar power generation, energy storage technology, and thermal backup energy.

According to official data, this solar project is expected to reduce diesel fuel consumption by over 70%, thereby lowering operational costs and emissions, and having a positive impact on the energy supply in the northern region of the Vaca Muerta influence zone.

Previously, the Los Chihuidos community relied on a diesel generation system with limited daily power supply hours. With the activation of the new solar system, the community now enjoys 24/7 continuous power supply for the first time, significantly improving residents' quality of life and facilitating the expansion of new services and infrastructure.

The project also includes supplementary works for power distribution and public lighting, which have been integrated into the local energy system and will be managed by EPEN as part of the provincial power grid.
