Wedoany.com Report on Mar 9th, Global packaging company Amcor has partnered with Belgian fertilizer manufacturer De Ceuster Meststoffen NV (DCM) to launch a new recyclable packaging film in the European market, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and enhance product recyclability.

This single-material polyethylene (PE) film replaces the previous hard-to-recycle multi-material packaging. It contains 35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content and is available in sizes ranging from 650 grams to 7 kilograms. A lifecycle assessment indicates that adopting this packaging can reduce the carbon footprint by 17%, helping DCM achieve its carbon reduction and circular economy goals.

The film combines machine direction oriented polyethylene (MDO-PE) with a functional sealing layer, effectively blocking gases and moisture while offering high tensile strength and resistance to tearing and puncturing. The structural design ensures the upright stability of small packages on store shelves, and the high-gloss surface enhances brand recognition and consumer appeal.

Sofie Peeters, Communications Manager at DCM, stated: "Since our founding in 1976, sustainability has been a core pillar of DCM's corporate philosophy. This packaging innovation is another step in our efforts to advance environmental goals while delivering high-quality fertilizer products."

Neal Geryl, Sales Director at Amcor, pointed out: "The combination of a recyclable single-material structure with post-consumer recycled content demonstrates Amcor's commitment to circular packaging solutions. This solution helps brands achieve sustainability goals while ensuring product protection and shelf appeal, and prepares European customers for upcoming packaging regulations."

The carbon reduction data is based on a cradle-to-gate comparison between a 110-micron virgin single-layer PE film and a 110-micron single-layer PE film containing 35% PCR, calculated using the Amcor ASSET lifecycle assessment model certified by the Carbon Trust.
