Wedonay.com Report on Mar 10th, Molex in the United States has introduced the Cardinal multi-port high-frequency coaxial component, setting a new benchmark in the test and measurement field. This multi-port high-frequency coaxial component supports frequencies up to 145 GHz and represents a strategic extension of the Cardinal series, designed to meet the demands of validating next-generation AI architectures and 6G wireless infrastructure.

Previously, 110 GHz was the benchmark for high-performance testing. However, with the growth of 6G research and AI backhaul requirements, the demand for higher frequencies has become increasingly urgent. Molex's 145 GHz Cardinal component can handle signals that are difficult to cover with standard coaxial interfaces, providing phase matching and high-precision connections, while optimizing insertion loss and return loss at extreme frequencies.
This solution supports data characterization rates up to 448 Gbps, making it suitable for next-generation devices and systems. By extending the measurement range, it helps engineers meet existing standards while validating future silicon chips and network protocols.
The multi-port design supports high-density testing in compact spaces, accelerating the R&D process. The components integrate seamlessly within the Cardinal ecosystem, providing high-performance connectivity for areas such as AI clusters, 5G/6G infrastructure, satellite communications, millimeter-wave radar, and terahertz imaging.
Molex integrates multiple RF connectors into a single housing, reducing test cycles and total costs. High-performance RF connectors and solderless PCB attachments enhance test flexibility and simplify installation. The integration of high-frequency contact technology provides a smooth path for upgrades from 110 GHz to 145 GHz.
Connector repeatability is a key feature of the Cardinal component, particularly important in test environments with frequent mating cycles. The components are rated for reliable performance over more than 500 cycles, with high-precision connectors ensuring measurement consistency and repeatability.
High-density PCB connectors minimize board space, allowing for the use of smaller evaluation boards to reduce costs.
The Molex Cardinal multi-port high-frequency coaxial component is now available, with the 145 GHz model joining the existing series of 67 GHz and 110 GHz coaxial components. The product offers a diverse range of connector options, including vertical, right-angle, and edge-mount PCB terminals, as well as scalable multi-port configurations such as 1×4, 1×8, and 2×8.
