Wedoany.com Report on Mar 13th, According to 2025 trade data released by Spanish Customs and Special Taxes and processed by Fepex (the Federation of Spanish Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters), the country's total export volume of fresh fruits and vegetables decreased by 4% compared to the previous year, falling to 12 million tons. However, export value showed the opposite trend, increasing by 4% to €18.666 billion, indicating a market characteristic of lower volume but higher prices.

The decline in export volume was primarily driven by vegetable products, which decreased by 7% compared to 2024 to 5.3 million tons, with export value remaining largely flat at €8.167 billion. Among specific products, tomato exports fell by 15% to 581,361 tons, with value down 5% to €1.052 billion; lettuce exports decreased by 4% to 740,258 tons, with value stable at €954 million; and cabbage exports declined by 2% in both volume and value. Fruit exports decreased by 1% to 6.6 million tons, but export value grew by 6.5% to €10.499 billion. Watermelon performed notably well, with export volume rising 3% to 820,611 tons and value increasing 8% to €604 million.

In terms of regional distribution, Andalusia was the largest exporting region, exporting 3.9 million tons in 2025, accounting for 33% of the total, a 2% decrease from the previous year; the Valencian Community exported 3.3 million tons, accounting for 28% of the total, a 5% decrease; and Murcia exported 2.3 million tons, accounting for 20% of the total, a 4% decrease. The European Union is the primary market for Spanish fruit and vegetable exports, with export volume reaching 10 million tons, accounting for 84% of the total. Including the UK and other non-EU European countries, total exports to Europe reached 11.7 million tons, accounting for 97% of the total. Exports to regions outside Europe decreased by 14% to 316,772 tons, with value down 11% to €478 million, partly due to protectionist policies in these countries and the complexity of negotiating phytosanitary agreements.

In 2025, Spain's imports of fruits and vegetables grew by 3% to 4.7 million tons, with import value increasing by 8% to €5.477 billion. Fruit imports grew by 5% to 2.4 million tons, with value up 11.5% to €3.849 billion; vegetable imports increased by 0.5% to 2.3 million tons, with value rising 0.5% to €1.628 billion. The decline in exports is attributed to factors such as rising production costs and reduced competitiveness in third countries, with differences in requirements between the EU and countries of origin leading to competitive disadvantages. Fepex calls for a trade agreement policy with third countries, including reciprocal measures, and emphasizes maintaining the importance of producer organizations through the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), prioritizing the protection of production resources within the EU.
