Wedoany.com Report on Mar 14th, American chipmaker AMD has recently introduced a new product category called "Agent Computers," aimed at meeting the demands for running AI agents locally. The company stated that its latest AI Max processors, such as the Ryzen AI Max+ 395, are ready for this market segment.

AMD wrote in a blog post: "Powerful agents require powerful computing, and that's where AMD excels. They need a new kind of machine." The post noted that agent computers run agents to assist users with applications, facilitating a shift from traditional PCs to agent-driven systems.

The blog post envisions a future where locally run agents become the norm, helping users with daily tasks. AMD added: "Not all AI workloads are suitable for hyperscale data centers. People and businesses want control over their data and affordable, unlimited daily AI, driving growing demand for localized, privacy-centric agent computing."

AMD directs users to its "Agent Computers for Windows," such as the HP Z2 Mini G1a compact desktop, configurable with the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 chip and up to 128GB of memory. This device offers computational power suitable for AI development, with a review unit priced at $3,309.

Other products include the Corsair AI Workstation 300 desktop, starting at $2,199, and Framework Computer's Framework Desktop, with the Ryzen Max+ 395 model starting at $1,959. Both can be configured with 128GB of memory, supporting the operation of large language models with up to 200 billion parameters.

AMD promoted this new product category just days before its competitor Nvidia kicked off its annual AI developer conference, GTC. Nvidia may introduce hardware for locally running AI models, such as the DGX Spark mini PC sold last year for $3,999, supporting 128GB of memory. The more powerful DGX Station is expected to launch this spring.

AMD's promotion of agent computers may be aimed at countering Nvidia's upcoming releases. The company has created a dedicated website to introduce this new category, including guides for running OpenClaw on AMD Ryzen AI Max+ processors and Radeon GPUs, to enhance its market competitiveness.
