en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 24th, The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is set to commence the Maroona to Portland sleeper replacement project, replacing aging timber sleepers with new low-profile concrete sleepers. This rail freight corridor is located on the border of Victoria and South Australia. The project has a total investment of 150 million Australian dollars, spans 173 kilometers, and connects the Port of Portland in western Victoria with the southeastern part of South Australia.

ARTC has appointed Vossloh Sleeper Technologies Australia to manufacture and deliver 250,000 concrete sleepers. Approximately 220,000 of these will be produced at Vossloh's plant in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, with the remaining 30,000 manufactured at its plant in Geelong, Victoria. Vossloh states that its rail freight sleepers are specifically designed for the unique conditions of each application, taking into account operational conditions, geographical factors, climate, temperature fluctuations, and other environmental factors before manufacturing.
According to ARTC, by replacing the aging timber sleepers with new concrete ones and improving overall track conditions, the efficiency and operational reliability of this rail freight line will be optimized. This means the line will be able to carry heavier and faster trains, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of rail freight and reducing the region's reliance on road freight. Upon completion, the project will effectively increase the carrying capacity of the freight corridor between Victoria and South Australia, providing more stable infrastructure support for regional logistics and transportation.
