en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 28th, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recently awarded $1.687 billion in supplemental funding to Florida to enhance the resilience of water infrastructure following Hurricanes Helene and Milton. This water infrastructure funding includes $844.671 million for the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, providing low-interest loans and principal forgiveness for the planning, design, and construction costs of eligible drinking water improvement projects. EPA Regional Administrator Kevin McComber stated, "This funding is critical for Florida as it will help the state rebuild stronger, more resilient water systems to better withstand severe weather."

The water infrastructure plan also awards $806.392 million to Florida for the Clean Water Safety Revolving Fund, providing low-interest loans and principal forgiveness for eligible treatment works improvement projects. Additionally, Florida received $35.95 million for the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to enhance the resilience of septic systems and to evaluate and connect homes served by septic systems to centralized wastewater treatment systems. Both Clean Water State Revolving Fund awards are administered under Title VI of the Clean Water Act. This water infrastructure funding is part of the 2025 Congressional supplemental appropriation for hurricanes.

These funds, managed by the State Revolving Funds, can be used to complete eligible water infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the resilience of hurricane-impacted facilities against natural disasters. Projects include improvements to drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities, distribution and collection systems, and water supply sources. This award will help Florida rebuild more resilient water infrastructure after the hurricanes, ensuring residents continue to have access to safe and clean water during extreme weather events.
