en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 30th, China's first 100-kilometer carbon dioxide long-distance pipeline—the Sinopec Shengli Oilfield million-ton CCUS carbon dioxide transmission pipeline—has been operating safely and steadily for 1000 days.
CCUS stands for Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage technology. This pipeline connects Qilu Petrochemical and the Gaoqing oil region of Shengli Oilfield, serving as a crucial component of China's first million-ton CCUS full-chain demonstration project—the Shengli Oilfield million-ton CCUS project. As of March 28, the total amount of carbon dioxide injected by this project has exceeded 1.3 billion cubic meters, leading the way in China's continuous development in the fields of large-scale carbon emission reduction and green energy development.
In the past, China's CCUS industry relied on imports for key equipment. Zhang Shiming, a CCUS expert at Shengli Oilfield, explained that through continuous research and breakthroughs, the team pioneered the theoretical and technological framework for high-pressure miscible CO2 flooding and storage in deep continental low-permeability reservoirs. This has increased crude oil recovery by more than 15 percentage points and improved the primary carbon dioxide storage rate by 20 percentage points. They also overcame the challenges of million-ton scale, low-energy-consumption, and low-cost carbon dioxide capture technology, achieving a 19% reduction in unit energy consumption and a cost reduction of over 30%. Furthermore, they developed key engineering equipment for the entire process, solving the problems associated with the large-scale application of CCUS.
Currently, all the carbon dioxide injected into the Shengli Oilfield million-ton CCUS project is stored underground. The daily oil production has increased from 220 tons to 460 tons, doubling and continuing to grow, signifying that Shengli Oilfield's CCUS technology has completed the transition from "technical verification" to "industrial implementation."
Yang Yong, the principal leader of Shengli Oilfield, stated that in the future, Shengli Oilfield will focus on deeply integrating technological innovation with industrial innovation. It aims to build demonstration projects such as the "Four Million-Ton" projects, including the capture and utilization of low-concentration carbon dioxide from coal-fired power plants, striving to become the provider of CCUS full-industry-chain technical solutions and a standard-setter.
