en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 30th, Ford Pro recently announced the launch of the new battery-electric Transit City work truck for the European market, designed to meet the operational needs of urban operators within zero-emission zones. Simon Robinson, Chief Engineer for the Transit City project, stated, "Since the first Transit was introduced in 1965, our van range has continuously evolved. Today, urban operators face challenges such as clean air zones and rising costs. This vehicle provides a cost-effective solution."

The Transit City is available in three configurations: standard van, high-roof van, and chassis cab, all capable of transporting three standard European pallets. The standard van is 4.99 meters long with a cargo volume of 6 cubic meters and a payload capacity of 1085 kg. The high-roof van is 5.29 meters long with an internal volume of 8.5 cubic meters and a payload capacity of 1275 kg. This battery-electric truck is not designed for towing, focusing instead on urban delivery tasks.

Robinson noted, "In electric vehicles, the battery is a key factor. The Transit City is equipped with a 56 kWh LFP battery, offering a range of up to 254 km, which is sufficient to cover the typical daily driving need of about 110 km." The vehicle features front-wheel drive and a 110 kW electric motor, providing a smooth driving experience. The onboard 11 kW AC charger takes 5.2 hours to fully charge the battery, while the 67 kW DC charger can charge it to 80% in half an hour.

To control costs, the Transit City adopts a standardized configuration with no optional extras, including a durable cargo floor, semi-high interior trim, and tie-down points. The vehicle comes standard with heated seats, a 12-inch touchscreen, and safety features such as automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. Robinson added, "Maintenance costs are expected to be about 40% lower than those of a diesel vehicle, with service intervals set at two years or 40,000 km."

The Transit City was not developed internally by Ford but is produced in collaboration with its Chinese partner Jiangling Motors, in which Ford holds a 32% stake. This battery-electric truck is expected to be priced around €47,000, positioned between the E-Transit Custom and the E-Transit Courier. Ford plans to start accepting orders in the second quarter, with deliveries beginning before the end of the year.

Owners can utilize the Ford Pro Telematics system to optimize fleet management, and the battery and electrical components are covered by an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty. Robinson concluded, "The Transit City is a practical tool for urban operators and, together with the E-Transit Custom, strengthens Ford Pro's product lineup in this segment." This battery-electric truck is designed to help European businesses cope with increasingly stringent environmental regulations and operational efficiency demands.
