en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 30th, FedEx has installed a new on-site solar facility at its international express and cargo hub in Shanghai, as part of the company's efforts to expand the use of renewable energy in the Asia Pacific region. Located in the cargo area of Shanghai Pudong International Airport, this project makes FedEx the first and currently the only logistics company in the area to generate its own solar power.

The solar system, covering an area of over 4,000 square meters, is installed above existing parking facilities and can generate approximately 743,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This clean energy primarily supports the hub's office operations, increasing the proportion of renewable energy used in daily activities. It is estimated that, compared to power generation from coal-fired power plants, this system will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 417 metric tons per year, while also cutting particulate matter emissions by about 2.1 tons and sulfur dioxide emissions by 4.21 tons annually.

FedEx's renewable energy projects in the Asia Pacific region include other initiatives as well. In South Korea, the Incheon Gateway has been using 2,400 rooftop solar panels since November 2022, meeting approximately 19% of its monthly energy needs and, combined with full LED lighting, saving over 22,000 kilowatt-hours of energy annually. The rooftop solar system at the North China Regional Headquarters in Beijing, operational since 2023, further adds to the company's clean energy capacity.

In Singapore, the South Pacific Regional Hub has been utilizing on-site solar power generation since January 2025, with over half of its electricity demand met by renewable energy. It also supports an electric vehicle fleet, demonstrating the integration of clean energy and transportation electrification. FedEx stated that the Asia Pacific region, as a key trade area, relies on a more resilient and sustainable logistics system for future growth. The company is implementing various measures to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency, currently generating over 31 gigawatt-hours of solar power at more than 30 locations worldwide.

Furthermore, FedEx is expanding its electric vehicle fleet, with over 8,000 electric vehicles globally. In China, more than 25% of operations have been electrified, and the use of electric vehicles is growing in countries such as Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, and Thailand. The company also applies digital tools, artificial intelligence, and automation technologies to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Through its "FedEx Cares" community program, FedEx collaborates with local organizations on environmental projects like tree planting, mangrove restoration, and riverbank clean-ups. Employee participation in these initiatives increased in the previous fiscal year, contributing to regional sustainable development.
