en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 30th, SITC International, a Hong Kong-listed intra-Asia container operator, recently exercised an option to order an additional six feeder container ships, with the total transaction value reaching $137 million. This move aims to expand its owned fleet in response to the sustained growth in core trade demand.
SITC Shipowning, a subsidiary of SITC International, will proceed with the construction of the new vessels with Jiangsu Yangzijiang Hongyuan Shipbuilding and Jiangsu New Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, both under Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, based on an existing agreement. These container ships each have a capacity of 1,100 TEU, with a unit price of approximately $22.8 million, and are scheduled for delivery between March and August 2028.
The latest order stems from an option attached to a contract signed in December 2025, when SITC International booked four ships at the same shipyard and secured the right to add up to six more vessels. The company has continued to expand its capacity this year, having earlier returned to Huanghai Shipbuilding to order two 2,700 TEU ships, bringing the total orders at the Shandong shipyard to eight vessels, valued at approximately $76 million.
SITC International ranks 14th among global container shipping companies, operating around 121 ships with a total capacity of approximately 187,500 TEU. About 100 of these are owned vessels, reflecting the group's strategy to control its fleet and reduce reliance on chartering.
