en.Wedoany.com Reported - India's Department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers recently facilitated the exchange of Green Ammonia Purchase Agreements (GAPA) and Green Ammonia Supply Agreements (GASA) between fertilizer manufacturers and green ammonia producers in New Delhi. The agreements cover 11 green ammonia projects, based on the National Green Hydrogen Mission framework, marking a key step in integrating green hydrogen derivatives into India's fertilizer value chain.

The agreements were signed in the presence of Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers J.P. Nadda and Union Minister of New & Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi. Fertilizer companies have entered into long-term supply contracts with green ammonia producers to transition from conventional ammonia to environmentally sustainable alternatives. India currently produces approximately 1.65-1.70 million metric tonnes of phosphatic and potassic fertilizers, with most of the required ammonia being imported.

To reduce import dependence, domestic fertilizer companies have signed fixed-price green ammonia supply agreements for a 10-year period. This initiative is expected to save about $2.5 billion in foreign exchange over the next decade and enhance fertilizer supply security. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), through competitive bidding under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme, discovered green ammonia prices ranging between ₹49.75 and ₹64.74 per kg, significantly lower than the global benchmark of approximately ₹110 per kg.

SECI has allocated green ammonia supply capacities totalling 724,000 tonnes per annum for 13 fertilizer plants. Participating companies include the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO), Coromandel International, Paradeep Phosphates, and Indorama India. The green ammonia supply will be developed by companies such as ACME Cleantech, NTPC Renewable Energy, Oriana Power, and SCC Infrastructure.

These collaborations are expected to stimulate investment in green ammonia production, supporting job creation and technological advancements within India's clean energy ecosystem. The agreements advance the transition from grey ammonia to green ammonia, supporting the nation's climate commitments and clean energy goals.
