en.Wedoany.com Reported - Hyundai Motor Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to jointly develop Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) aircraft.

Under the agreement, Supernal, Hyundai Motor Group's U.S.-based AAM subsidiary, will collaborate with KAI on aircraft development, while Hyundai Motor Group and KAI will separately cooperate on the commercialization of electrified aviation powertrains. The two companies stated that the agreement also covers the supply chain, certification processes, and global customer networks. Hyundai Motor said Supernal will lead aircraft design and engineering work, while KAI will be responsible for providing aircraft development experience.

Gang Hyun Seo, President of Hyundai Motor Group and Head of the Corporate Planning Office, said: "The collaboration with Korea Aerospace Industries, a leader in Korea's aviation industry, is a significant step forward in our journey to develop future air mobility solutions. By launching safe and efficient Advanced Air Mobility products, we aim to extend the boundaries of mobility into the sky."

The memorandum was signed following a restructuring at Supernal earlier this year. According to a Los Angeles Times report in March, Supernal laid off 296 employees, approximately 80% of its workforce, affecting its Irvine headquarters, Fremont facility, and Mojave Air and Space Port test site. The company had also previously suspended its AAM flight testing program following a leadership change in 2025.
