en.Wedoany.com Reported - Aberdeen-based Maritime Developments Ltd (MDL) has deployed its aft deck technology from its operating base in the US Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana, to a major oil and gas project offshore Guyana.
The multiple King's Award for Export-winning company is working with Italian energy services giant Saipem on the Uaru field project—a deepwater development in ExxonMobil-operated Stabroek Block, Guyana. MDL's 2-track tensioner kit is used to transfer an umbilical from the quayside to the subsea installation vessel Normand Maximus' under-deck carousel.
The kit was mobilized from MDL's US equipment base in Houma, Louisiana. The company operates from its headquarters in Peterhead, as well as internationally in Stavanger, Norway; Paris, France; Singapore; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Houston, USA. Elsewhere in Guyana, MDL previously supported lay operations for the Yellowtail field using equipment also mobilized from Houma.
Kingsley Emmanuel, Saipem's Uaru Installation Manager, said: "Saipem required a tensioner to support the transfer of our vessel during its US mobilization. MDL was able to provide a rapid solution with equipment already in the US, delivering a high-quality outcome. The crew they provided was knowledgeable and professional."
Shawn Book, MDL's Vice President for the Americas, said: "We are very proud to continue supporting Saipem in the US, building on a strong track record of successful collaboration in West Africa and the Mediterranean—all deepwater basins that present their own unique deployment challenges, which MDL's technology can address." He also noted that Guyana is a key part of MDL's Americas strategy, with high-capacity yet low-footprint equipment combined with over 25 years of global flexible lay experience meaning the company is well-positioned to support emerging and expanding projects in the region with speed and confidence. He specifically mentioned that the Houma base is intentionally expanding its product portfolio to meet regional demand, and that this transfer operation was made possible by having equipment locally, reflecting how the base enables the company to quickly test and mobilize lay kits for deployments in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the east coasts of South and North America.
