en.Wedoany.com Reported - Wärtsilä has secured a contract to supply 452 megawatts of generating equipment for the Pecos Power Plant, along with a long-term operations and maintenance (O&M) agreement. Located in Pecos, Texas, USA, the plant is jointly owned by Mercuria Americas and Continental Resources. The project provides flexible power generation aimed at supporting grid reliability in an electricity system with rapidly growing renewable energy penetration. Wärtsilä booked an initial order of 226 MW in the first quarter of 2025, followed by an additional 226 MW in the third quarter, with the O&M agreement signed in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The Pecos Power Plant was developed by Peak Reliability, a Mercuria affiliate, in collaboration with Wärtsilä. The facility consists of 24 Wärtsilä 18V50SG reciprocating engines and will deliver reliable and efficient energy to the West Texas region. The project demonstrates Wärtsilä's delivery capability in integrated power plant solutions and highlights its growing role as a lifecycle partner for large independent power producers.
"The flexibility of Wärtsilä's technology will allow us to maximize operational efficiency in an increasingly volatile power market. This further enables us to reliably serve our customers when they need electricity the most. Power demand in the region is growing at record levels, and this project will play a significant role in meeting that demand," said Martin Parizek, Managing Director of Peak Reliability.

The development work, led by the Peak Reliability team with collaboration from Wärtsilä's project development team, played a key role in accelerating the project's delivery of power to the grid. This natural gas plant will bring dispatchable generation to the ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) region, which is located in one of the world's largest renewable energy pools. The plant will also support industrial and commercial development in West Texas through low-cost, efficient, and reliable power.
"Wärtsilä deeply understands the urgent need to meet growing electricity demand with solutions that support energy supply, reliability, and sustainability. By supporting end-to-end power project delivery from concept to execution, Wärtsilä reduces risk and shortens time to market, thereby improving customer efficiency. Furthermore, our world-class expertise in operating and maintaining power plants allows customers to focus on their core business while we ensure optimal performance," commented Risto Paldanius, Vice President for Wärtsilä Energy in the Americas.
The O&M agreement covers the full construction of the project and constitutes a significant O&M plant project for Wärtsilä Energy. Under this agreement, Wärtsilä is responsible for ensuring the plant's long-term performance, availability, and reliability, supporting the secure power supply of the ERCOT system.
The plant is expected to begin commercial operations in 2027.
