en.Wedoany.com Reported - The UK Building Safety Regulator (BSR) has stated that three-quarters of Gateway 2 applications submitted over the past 12 weeks have been approved, indicating that the regulator is accelerating its decision-making process.

In the 12 weeks ending May 30, the BSR made a total of 358 Gateway 2 decisions, achieving an approval rate of 75%. Among all Gateway 2 category decisions, 65% were related to projects in the London area. The regulator stated that new applications are handled by its Innovation Unit (IU). Over the past 12 weeks, the IU made 31 decisions, of which 28 were approved, representing a 90% approval rate, with 19 involving London projects. In the past 12 weeks, the approval rate for London projects reached 100%, reflecting the BSR's ongoing efforts to support complex cases.

High-rise building

Currently, the IU has approved a total of 43 projects, with a median processing time of 22 weeks. Regarding Gateway 2 approvals, the BSR stated that 9,499 residential units were approved over the 12-week period, with cases under review involving 38,775 units. The BSR also noted that most of its decisions are related to London projects, with 472 applications closed in London over the past 12 weeks, while 436 new applications were received. The decision cycle for batch processing applications is 12 to 14 weeks, a process that bundles applications to specialized engineering service providers to accelerate assessments.

Charlie Pugsley, Acting Chief Executive of the BSR, stated that the regulator will accelerate evaluations, decisions, and approvals, and improve consistency to ensure the industry can build new homes and make existing buildings safer. The regulator said that over the past 12 weeks, the approval rate for remediation plans has risen to 79%, exceeding the minimum annual target of 65% set earlier this year. Of the 42 remaining 2024 applications from early 2026, 16 are still pending, while decisions on 10 other applications are expected by June. The BSR stated that applications from 2026 are being processed faster than earlier ones, although the average processing time over a rolling 12-week period is 39 weeks, constrained by the concentrated effort to clear older 2024/2025 applications. The regulator added that more resources and support will be introduced this year, continuing close collaboration with the industry to help applicants improve the quality of their submissions.
