en.Wedoany.com Reported - Lithuanian energy terminal operator KN has completed the long-term regasification capacity allocation procedure for the Klaipėda LNG terminal, based on a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), for the period from 2033 to 2044.

KN stated that this procedure allocated over 20 TWh of capacity. Of this, 8 TWh of capacity is available until 2044, and an additional 12 TWh of capacity is available until 2040. These long-term capacities were booked by existing customers Ignitis, Latvenergo, Equinor, as well as new customers Gasum and Naftogaz.

In March this year, KN launched this capacity allocation procedure, offering the market the opportunity to book up to 28 TWh per year of regasification capacity for the period from 2033 to 2044. The capacity offered in the procedure was divided into seven identical packages of 4 TWh/year, with companies able to choose a term of 8 or 12 consecutive years. Approximately 1 TWh is equivalent to one conventional-sized LNG cargo.

KN stated that, combining the results of this procedure with the 4 TWh long-term capacity package already allocated in 2023 (until 2044), the total utilization rate of the LNG terminal will reach approximately 75% of its nominal capacity. The unallocated LNG terminal capacity from this procedure is planned to be offered to the market through repeated long-term capacity booking procedures and separate annual capacity allocation procedures. Customers who have booked long-term capacity will have priority in selecting cargo arrival windows and regasification slots.

The terminal's capacity is fully booked until 2032. Additionally, some capacity for the period from 2033 to 2044 had been previously contracted. The FSRU-based Klaipėda LNG terminal currently offers regasification and transshipment services, as well as biomethane liquefaction services through equivalent methods.

In December 2024, KN Energies took over the 170,000 cubic meter FSRU Independence from Höegh Evi, which has been registered under the Lithuanian flag. In March last year, the FSRU completed its 500th ship-to-ship LNG transfer at Klaipėda since commencing operations in 2014. Most LNG comes from Norway and the United States, but the FSRU-based Klaipėda facility has also received LNG from Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Egypt, Algeria, and other countries.
