en.Wedoany.com Reported - BHP and Wuxi BOTON Technology have signed a global framework agreement to collaborate on developing sustainable conveyor systems for mining operations.

The agreement, signed last month at the Wuxi Boton Innovation Center, expands on the existing partnership between the two companies. Under the terms of the agreement, the collaboration will extend beyond product supply to include joint technology projects, lifecycle services, sustainability initiatives, and the expansion of global support services.

In terms of technology research and development, BHP and Boton plan to build on existing projects at BHP's Escondida copper mine to develop technologies that automate conveyor operations, and to study the introduction of intelligent systems such as longitudinal tear detection, digital X-ray scanning, AI-based belt alignment, and robotic inspection tools.

Rag Udd, Chief Commercial Officer of BHP, stated that the agreement combines the strengths of the two companies' long-term partnership and shared focus on innovation, safety, and sustainability. Through closer collaboration, they aim to advance next-generation mining conveyor solutions to enhance productivity, support decarbonization goals, and create long-term value across global operations.

In terms of environmental measures, the two companies will launch a supply chain partnership program. This will involve establishing an integrated system to monitor the carbon footprint of mining operations across the entire lifecycle—from raw material procurement and manufacturing processes to operations and final conveyor belt recycling—while improving emission tracking and management methods and developing new recycling solutions to enhance circularity and reduce environmental impact.

Boton plans to leverage its international facilities in Australia and Thailand to strengthen service operations in BHP's core mining markets, and to set up dedicated service stations to provide faster local support.

In February of this year, BHP signed a long-term streaming agreement with Wheaton Precious Metals, which includes a $4.3 billion (£3.17 billion) upfront payment for silver from BHP's production share at the Antamina copper mine in Peru.
