en.Wedoany.com Reported - Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PV Gas) announced that it has received nearly 120,000 tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and is arranging additional cargoes for the coming months to meet rising domestic energy demand and global market volatility.

The LNG cargo, approximately 73,000 tons, was transported from Canada by the 170,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier Methane Mickie Harper, built in 2009, and arrived at the Thi Vai LNG terminal on June 7. PV Gas stated that this cargo is one of the large-scale LNG shipments it will receive in 2026, aimed at ensuring fuel supply for gas-fired power plants. AIS data shows that the Methane Mickie Harper loaded this cargo at the Shell-led LNG Canada terminal in Kitimat.
PV Gas also revealed that the next LNG cargo is expected to arrive on June 17-18, carrying approximately 15,000 tons of LNG from Australia. The company is simultaneously conducting a supplier selection process for LNG cargoes scheduled for delivery in early July 2026 to meet the needs of Vietnam Petroleum Power Company (PV Power). According to PV Gas data, total LNG imports in the first six months of this year amounted to approximately 354,000 tons.
In terms of LPG, the vessel Clipper Wilma transported approximately 45,000 tons of LPG from the United States to Vietnam. PV Gas stated that this cargo helps increase storage capacity and ensures a stable LPG supply for residential, commercial, and industrial sectors during peak demand periods.
Recently, PV Gas enhanced the gasification capacity of the Thi Vai LNG import terminal. Test results showed that the system operated safely and stably at a rate of 288 tons per hour, exceeding the initial design capacity of 171 tons per hour, equivalent to approximately 9.5 million standard cubic meters per day. The facility, Vietnam's first LNG import terminal, was launched in 2023 and includes an 180,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tank, a jetty, and a gasification area, supplying natural gas to Petrovietnam Power's Nhon Trach 3 and 4 LNG power plants. PV Power commenced commercial operations of its LNG power plant last December, with the total installed capacity of Vietnam's first LNG power plants reaching 1.6 gigawatts.
