en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) held a technology forum in Berlin on June 12 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its Europe Office. The forum brought together several top European research institutions, including the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the Fraunhofer Society, the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations (EARTO), and the Technical University of Braunschweig (TU Braunschweig).

ITRI Europe Office celebrates its 30th anniversary in Berlin.

Established in Germany in 1996, the ITRI Europe Office aims to drive Taiwan's innovation capacity and industrial transformation. Serving as a core hub for Taiwan-Europe innovation collaboration, the office has supported Taiwan's participation in over 20 Horizon Europe projects, signed cooperation agreements with partners from 14 European countries including Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and Spain, and facilitated nearly 100 joint R&D projects.

At the forum, ITRI Chairman Tsung-Tsong Wu stated that the 30th anniversary of the Europe Office marks a deepening of technical cooperation between Taiwan and Europe, and reflects ITRI's transformation from a technology explorer into a strategic partner within the European innovation ecosystem. He noted that technical cooperation relies not only on technical expertise but also on long-established mutual trust. ITRI has been collaborating with the Fraunhofer Society since 1992, and a new five-year Memorandum of Understanding renewal will further consolidate joint efforts in health, information and communication technology, and renewable energy, while opening new directions in artificial intelligence and robotics.

In his opening remarks, Johann Feckl, Director of Pre-competitive Research and International Affairs at Fraunhofer, pointed out that the long-term collaboration between Fraunhofer and ITRI clearly demonstrates how trust, continuity, and a shared commitment to the future can create lasting impact. He stated that in applied research, international connectivity is crucial for early identification of technological breakthroughs and their transformation into high-impact innovations.

As part of its commitment to European technology and industry, ITRI held ITRI Technology Day in the UK to mark the first anniversary of its UK Office. At the same time, ITRI is advancing cooperation with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in areas including semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence, and other related technology fields.

To align with the EU's R&D priorities in net-zero emissions, biomedicine, digital innovation, and space, ITRI will continue to strengthen its technical ties with Europe through its Berlin and London offices, and expand cooperation with partners in France, the Netherlands, and Central and Eastern Europe in emerging fields such as drones. Leveraging its network across industry, government, academia, research institutions, and startups, ITRI aims to accelerate technology exchange, policy dialogue, and cross-disciplinary innovation, positioning Taiwan as a key player in global industrial transformation.
