en.Wedoany.com Reported - Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian has signed a framework agreement with Greek grid operator Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) worth approximately €910 million for the power interconnection of the Dodecanese and North Aegean islands.
Under the agreement, Prysmian will be responsible for the design, manufacturing, and installation of submarine and land cables for "Lot B." This lot covers seven projects requiring the laying of over 900 kilometers of high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) cables, with final delivery expected by 2033. The company stated that cable laying will reach depths of 1,150 meters, setting a new depth record for static three-core HVAC cables.
The agreement is subject to customary statutory conditions and regulatory approvals, with execution depending on the client's notice to proceed.
Raul Gil, Executive Vice President of Prysmian's Transmission Business, said this is a step forward for Greece, and combined with the company's previous experience in the country, the upgraded power infrastructure is very important for island communities. He added that the company will leverage its full capabilities from design, manufacturing, survey, to installation, including its flagship deep-water vessel, to deliver these upgrades, and looks forward to the positive impact on thousands of island residents and tourists.
Prysmian has previously completed several projects with IPTO, including the Cyclades Islands interconnection project (involving Evia, Andros, and Tinos, as well as Syros-Lavrio), the Crete-Attica, and Crete-Peloponnese projects. In these projects, the company set depth records in the HVAC field, installing cables at approximately 960 meters underwater.
