en.Wedoany.com Reported - Norwegian ship designer and builder VARD has delivered a 151-meter hybrid construction and cable-laying vessel to Japan's Toyo Construction, serving the Japanese offshore wind power market.

Named Discovery, the vessel was delivered on June 26 at Vard Langsten in Norway, where outfitting and commissioning were completed, while its hull was built by Vard Shipyards Romania – Tulcea. With a beam of 28 meters and a cable-carrying capacity of 9,000 tons, the vessel can serve not only as a self-propelled cable-laying ship but also, thanks to its high-performance crane and large deck area, perform multiple tasks such as foundation construction, floating offshore wind mooring operations, and marine resource-related projects.

Onboard equipment includes a removable cable-laying system, two offshore cranes, a four-point mooring system, and a helideck. According to the shipyard, the vessel will also be equipped with a large battery pack, shore power connection system, and energy management system. Vard Electro provided SeaQ series equipment and solutions, including SeaQ Power with an energy storage system, switchboards, and shore power connection, and was responsible for the onboard network, entertainment, and communication systems. Vard Interiors provided interior solutions and a green HVAC R system.

VARD previously held a keel-laying ceremony for the vessel in September 2024. Alberto Maestrini, Chairman of Vard Group, stated that the vessel is the result of close collaboration between Toyo Construction, Class NK, and Vard Group. With engineering flexibility and technical capabilities, it fully meets the requirements of Class NK and the flag state, and upon delivery, it will become Japan's largest dedicated cable-laying vessel.
