en.Wedoany.com Reported - Elea Data Centers, in partnership with AXIA Energia, will launch the first artificial intelligence (AI) neutral data center (BEL1) in Belém, Pará, in the Amazon region. The facility is scheduled to begin operations in the second quarter of 2027, with an initial capacity of 7.5 megawatts, supported by demand from a large anchor customer, and may expand to 100 megawatts in future phases. Elea will be responsible for facility operations, while AXIA will provide 100% renewable energy for the project.

The data center will be built near the Miramar high-voltage substation operated by AXIA to ensure high energy reliability, flexibility for future expansion, and greater operational efficiency. Operations will be powered by renewable energy through a power purchase agreement (PPA), reinforcing both companies' commitment to developing sustainable digital infrastructure. AXIA's commercialization and land division are involved in the project, positioning the energy company prominently in Brazil's growing data center market and solidifying its role as a supplier of stable, clean energy to enterprises in the sector. AXIA will be responsible for ensuring the energy availability required for BEL1 and will collaborate with Elea to evaluate solutions supporting the planned capacity expansion for future project phases.

From a connectivity perspective, Belém holds a strategic position as a complementary and resilient route to the Fortaleza hub, the country's main submarine cable gateway. The city is integrated into the northern region's connectivity network through information channels under the Norte Conectado (Connected North) program and gains additional importance through the expansion of coastal fiber optic routes connecting to international systems such as Europe to Latin America.

This combination enhances route diversity, expands the resilience of Brazil's digital infrastructure, and positions Belém as a new strategic hub for the development of the Amazon's digital economy.

Alessandro Lombardi, CEO and founder of Elea Data Centers, stated that expanding to Belém is a strategic move to broaden the platform's geographic distribution and strengthen Brazil's digital infrastructure. The project began taking shape in 2024 when Belém was confirmed as the host city for COP30, enhancing the region's potential to attract structural and sustainable investments. The northern region will play a fundamental role in Brazil's digital ecosystem by offering an alternative route to Fortaleza, helping reduce digital inequality and improve regional competitiveness. BEL1 reaffirms the pioneering spirit and represents a legacy of COP30, demonstrating the importance of developing sustainable digital infrastructure in strategic and remote areas.

Ítalo Freitas, Vice President of Commercialization and Energy Solutions at AXIA, stated that the partnership with Elea reinforces AXIA's role as a provider of integrated solutions for clients, enabling innovative and strategic business projects focused on digital transformation. As the largest 100% renewable energy company in the Southern Hemisphere, AXIA has a strong portfolio capable of guaranteeing stable, reliable, and sustainable energy for enterprises of this scale, expanding connectivity, and helping attract investments to drive economic development in the Amazon region.
