This 130-tonne rough terrain crane is the first of its kind in Ghana, opening up new application possibilities for demanding mining environments.
Prior to acquiring this new crane, Rocksure had purchased two Liebherr LRT 1090-2.1 cranes in 2025 and gained positive operational experience. "These cranes are extremely robust and maneuverable. Therefore, moving to a model with higher lifting capacity was the logical next step," explained Kwasi Osei Ofori, CEO of Rocksure. With this move, the company is expanding its lifting capacity and pursuing a strategic diversification of its service portfolio.
The LRT 1130-2.1 offers decisive advantages in dynamic mining environments. With a lifting capacity of 130 tonnes and a telescopic boom reaching up to 60 meters, it can handle demanding lifting operations. One key decision factor was the LRT 1130-2.1's "pick-and-carry" function, which allows simultaneous lifting and moving of loads within the worksite, eliminating the need for rigging and leveling, significantly speeding up workflows and improving efficiency.
The new crane will primarily be used for Rocksure's existing mining partners in Ghana. "The LRT 1130-2.1 is the largest Liebherr rough terrain crane in Ghana and a clear statement of our growth ambitions. The increased fleet capacity opens up more business opportunities for us," said Ofori. Currently, Rocksure's fleet includes three Liebherr cranes, with further additions already under consideration.
"In addition to product quality, Liebherr's strong regional presence was a decisive factor in purchasing the new LRT 1130-2.1," Ofori stated. Rocksure works closely with Liebherr-Ghana Ltd., which provides comprehensive on-site support and service.
