Plenitude starts production at its 220 MW Villarino solar plant

The plant is a single solar park covering approximately 286 hectares, consisting of over 365,000 bifacial modules. Plenitude expects the plant to generate more than 400 GWh of electricity annually. Construction began in October 2024 and was completed on schedule despite challenging geological and environmental conditions on site. The company stated that the natural conditions and rocky terrain of the area required specific technical solutions during the design phase and continuous coordination by a specialized team during construction to ensure the company's highest safety and quality standards.

For the construction of the Villarino plant, Plenitude partnered with Sterling & Wilson, a company specializing in photovoltaic plants. The project has boosted the local economy, created local employment opportunities, and involved local businesses in the construction. The company has implemented measures in accordance with current regulations, including protecting rural huts and natural waterways within the plant area, and coordinating with local farmers and herders to ensure project compatibility with land use through measures such as vegetation control via local grazing.

Stefano Goberti, CEO of Plenitude, stated: "The commissioning of the Villarino plant marks an important milestone in Plenitude's growth in the renewable energy sector in Spain. We will continue to invest in the country with a long-term perspective, including building large-scale batteries to support our solar and wind facilities. We are also involved in areas such as retail and electric mobility, as we believe that covering the entire value chain is a key factor in creating value in a rapidly evolving energy market. This approach will further enhance the competitiveness and economic sustainability of our operations in the Iberian Peninsula and other countries where we operate."

With this latest milestone, Plenitude's operational renewable energy capacity in Castile and León reaches 338 MW, including the Grijotas I and II solar plants, the Numancia wind farm, and the Villarino plant. This underscores the company's commitment to the local energy industry and its retail operations in the region. Castile and León has become a strategic hub for Plenitude's renewable energy portfolio in Spain. Additionally, the company works closely with local authorities to continuously drive the energy transition at both regional and national levels. To date, Plenitude has nearly 1.8 GW of operational renewable energy capacity in Spain, along with a development pipeline of approximately 2 GW, encompassing new renewable energy facilities, energy storage systems hybrid projects, and capacity expansion and repowering initiatives. The company is also active in energy sales and energy solutions in Spain, serving around 500,000 customers and operating an electric mobility business.
