en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 2, 2026, in Tokyo, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) signed a contract with Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) to provide maintenance tools and equipment for the Yanchao Main Workshop in southern Taiwan. This facility is used for THSRC train maintenance and inspection, and MHI will be responsible for the delivery, installation, testing, and commissioning of the maintenance tools and equipment.

This order aligns with the new N700S series trains that THSRC is introducing, which are scheduled to begin commercial operations in the second half of 2027. The project aims to strengthen the maintenance system to support further improvements in transportation services on the Taiwan High-Speed Rail network.
Since its launch in 2007, the Taiwan High-Speed Rail network has become a core transportation infrastructure in Taiwan. Annual passenger volume has grown from approximately 15 million at the time of launch to about 82 million in 2025, currently serving an average of around 230,000 passengers per day, with cumulative passenger volume exceeding 1 billion.
The core system supply contract for Taiwan High-Speed Rail was awarded in 2000 to a consortium of seven Japanese companies, including MHI, and commercial operations began in January 2007. Since then, MHI has continued to support the development of the Taiwan High-Speed Rail network through participation in projects such as the Nangang extension, the Zuoying depot track work, and core systems. This contract reflects THSRC's recognition of MHI's long-term performance and technical expertise.
Going forward, MHI will continue to leverage its technology and expertise in transportation systems, as well as its project management capabilities, to contribute to the further development of the Taiwan High-Speed Rail network and the realization of safe and reliable services.
